A Little Bit of History...
|
The Electric Materials Company was founded in 1915 by the late Orris C. Hirtzel as a "Copper Works." In 1997, TEMCO was purchased by United Stars Inc. of Beloit, WI. From its inception to today, the owners have firmly believed in satisfying the customer with exceptional service and product.
The original buildings occupied 15,000 square feet on Washington Street in North East, Pennsylvania. There was an initial capital investment of $100,000 and original product lines included street railway repair parts, drop forgings, etc. Since that beginning in 1915, the Company has expanded both its product lines and plant facilities. Today the plant covers approximately 420,000 square feet and employs over 300 people working three shifts.
The Electric Materials Company is unique in that it has six separate manufacturing departments which, along with the various support departments, combine to complement one another and offer a wide variety of products to our customers. Within these Departments our capabilities include Extrusion, Casting, Forging, Fabrication, Brazing, Commutator Manufacturing, Machining, and Plating.
Since its beginning, the Company has grown into an integrated and complex manufacturer of copper base components for the electrical industry. Dependable service to our customers is a primary concern in todays highly competitive, demanding markets. New product lines are being investigated and the export of our products to overseas markets is being pursued.
