Complete AC Rotors
AC Rotors are manufactured in a state of the art production area within TEMCO. The use of dedicated tooling, equipment, and staff provides rotors of the highest quality, from stacking the laminated core to final dynamic balance; all steps are subjected to stringent monitoring as part of our ISO 9001 Quality Plan.
A brief synopsis of the manufacturing method:
Manufacturing starts with a chemical cleaning process that is used to remove any contamination of oxides from the copper bars and rings prior to brazing. A core stacking and mounting cell provides built up cores with precise uniformity and trueness. After the core is mounted on the shaft, a series of machining and inspection steps prepare the rotor for the end connector brazing operations.
The brazing operations take place in one of two computer-controlled induction brazing machines. During the brazing operation, precise non-contact temperature monitoring equipment continually sends data to the computers which then control the brazing process. This results in rotor rings that are joined to the rotor bars with the highest quality braze joint possible.
Automated cleaning equipment then removes oxides from the brazed joints allowing further ultrasonic, hardness, and conductivity inspection to take place. Upon final approval of the brazing process, the rotor goes to a machining cell to true up the end connectors. This prepares the rotor for application of paint to be followed by dynamic balancing. Two dedicated, computer-controlled balancers provide near perfect balance conditions well within the most stringent of requirements. The rotor is then given a final inspection and is carefully packed for shipment.
The Electric Materials Company continues to manufacture high quality AC Rotors for many of the mass-transit systems in major cities throughout the world.
