OEM Commutators / Rebuilt Commutators / Collector Ring Assemblies
Commutator Manufacturing is one of the original product lines offered when the company was founded in 1915. The types of commutators that TEMCO can produce include:
§ V-Ring Construction
§ Shrink Ring style
§ Glass Banded
These can generally be offered as completes, refills, or assemblies. Size ranges typically start at approximately 3” brush diameter and run up to 124” brush diameter. In addition to our commutator capabilities, full manufacturing services on collector ring assemblies is also available.
The materials used in manufacturing these products are among the best rated in the industry.
§ Silver bearing copper is used for the commutator bars; unlike milled bars, our in-house hard drawn copper segments offer unmatched uniformity and conformance to specified size.
§ Mica for both ground insulation and copper separators must meet the highest quality checks made by our mica suppliers, as well as extensive in-house testing prior to approval for production.
§ Purchased castings and steel stock undergo rigorous testing and certification before being approved for commutator manufacturing.
Our manufacturing department is designed for optimization and sensible product flow. As the commutators are stacked and introduced into the line, presses and ovens are strategically placed to accommodate the various processing steps as specified by our Engineering department. Numerous work centers and cells enable assembly, turning, slotting, taping and other steps to be done as the products flow through the line.
Complete electrical testing is done at various stages of manufacturing. For high performance industrial and traction commutators, we offer full spin seasoning capabilities for up to 100” riser diameter commutators.
Supporting our commutator processing line is a full compliment of skilled workers with many years of commutator experience and equipment producing the components and sub-assemblies that make up the commutator. These areas would include machining areas, mica cutting, and gauging. The manufacturing equipment utilized runs the gamut from CNC/NC, to manually operated, to 100% specialized and dedicated for a specific task. Many of our machines have been designed and built in-house as there are no commercially available equivalents.
