Frequently Asked Questions

How large of a casting can you make?

The Electric Materials Company produces sand castings up to 600 pounds, centrifugally cast rings up to 600 pounds and permanent mold castings up to 10 pounds.

What copper alloys do you extrude?

We have the ability to produce extrusions out of copper, copper nickel, high copper alloys, brass alloys and bronze alloys. We do not manufacture any of the “300” series “leaded alloys” or alloys with elements containing known carcinogens.

Can I get an expedited delivery if needed?

If standard lead-times are too long to wait TEMCO offers a variety of accelerated delivery options. Options listed here are in ascending order of priority: Overtime, EBD (Emergency Breakdown) and Express. Contact a sales associate for details.

How large of an extrusion can you produce?

The largest bar extrusion we can produce is 6” wide by 1” thick. We generally look at the overall cross section of the extrusion required and can manufacture shapes approaching 8 square inches. As long as the profile fits within a 6 inch circumscribing circle our presses will be able to extrude it.

What is the smallest cross section you can extrude?

The smallest cross section we will extrude is 0.170 square inches. Minimum thickness we will extrude is 0.100 inches. Smaller thicknesses are available through cold working if required. TEMCO engineers are available to assist with extrusion design.

What types of material testing and certification are available?

Our laboratory is fully equipped to evaluate all physical and mechanical properties of copper based alloys such as tensile strength, yield strength, embrittlement, hardness, electrical conductivity and electrical resistivity. Chemical analysis can be conducted through the use of our Atomic Absorption Spectrometer or Optical Emission Spectrometer. Certification of conformance is available free of charge for all items we manufacture and full metal tests are available for a minimal fee.

What are your minimum purchase requirements?

For products produced in our extrusion mill we have a minimum purchase requirement of 200 pounds for standard alloys. For special alloys requiring billet production the minimum purchase requirement is 5,000 pounds. Other products including commutator components, soldering coppers, hammers, castings and so on require a minimum purchase order of $200.00.
